All
quarry areas are subject to detailed restoration and aftercare plans and
since the local groundwater table is generally reached, much of the site
has been restored to water areas with associated tree planting, informal
open space and the provision of additional rights of way. The water areas
are utilised for a range of afteruses such as sailing but in addition
to water bodies many areas have been restored above water level to a range
of habitats including woodland and heathland. One of the heathland areas
is known locally as Wicken North.
