Sand Processing and Despatch

Kings Lynn QuarryProcessing for glass grade sand at King’s Lynn site involves washing, screening, sizing, attrition and leaching. The number of processes which the sand undergoes depends upon the final specification required and the raw material feed characteristics. Blending of sand from the quarry and at various stages of processing assists with the maximisation of permitted reserves and the attainment of in specification products to tight customer limits.

The processed glass sands are either put to outside towers for gravity dewatering, stored under cover or dried on site prior to onward despatch to customers. The majority of glass sand sales leave the King’s Lynn site by rail with loading facilities for moist and dry sands. A present, an average of 8 trains per week leave the site for onward delivery to glass works. A minority of sand is despatched by road in sheeted tippers.
