Low iron silica sands, and silica sands which have been calcinated (heat treated) to convert the quartz to the high temperature form of silicon oxide known as cristobilite are used in clay-based white ware such as table ware, sanitary ware and wall and floor tiles. They are also a component of ceramic glazes and enamels.
