Our Neighbours SAMSA
members place great importance on maintaining close ties with the communities
in which they operate. They recognise that they must continue to work on
both transparency and performance in order to build trust within communities
and to co-exist without friction.
Mineral sites provide valuable employment, particularly in rural areas, but Members recognise that their operations can give rise to concerns and that it is essential clear lines of communication are available so these can be addressed without delay. Many sites therefore run community liaison groups which meet regularly to discuss the operations. In addition, Members organise educational visits for schools and colleges so that students can gain an understanding of quarrying operations and the need for the minerals produced as an essential raw materials for industry.
