Code of Practice

SAMSA members are required to observe and implement the following:

to carry out the premitted development in a resposible manner, and to implement steps that reduce any adverse impact on the local environment
to undertake the extraction and processing of silica minerals in an efficient manner in terms of raw material and energy consumption and wherever reasonably practicable endeavour to exceed standards required by law or regulation for the operation of the plant and machinery.
to ensure that the highest reasonably practicable standards of restoration of mineral workings are achieved
to pursue environmental excellence in all its operations with particular regard to minimising pollution and wherever possible to enhance the environment
to implement an Environmental Management System and carry out regular audits of its operations
to communicate with and be responsible to the local community
to ensure that all employees perform their duties in a manner consistent with the environmental policy objectives
to ensure a manager is appointed at a senior level with specific responsiblity for environmental matters
to maintain under regular review company policies with the purpose of seeking improvements for the safeguarding of the environment

SAMSA members are required to conduct their activities at all times in accordance with this code.
